New changes to the Portugal Golden Visa program!

The Portugal Golden Visa program, launched in 2012, has become very successful and one of the most demanded residence permit programs for investment in the European Union.

It allows applicants to obtain resident status without the need to reside in Portugal and offers many benefits: visa-free travel with over 180 countries, favorable tax regime, freedom of movement within the European Union, excellent healthcare and education, excellent business opportunities, and many more.

The Portuguese government has announced significant changes to its Golden Visa program.

The current Golden Visa laws remain in effect until December 31, 2021, and will remain in effect for application submissions until the end of this year.

But, from New Year 2022, the following changes will be introduced:

- Porto, Lisbon, and the coastal areas of Portugal (including the Algarve) will no longer be included in the Golden Visa investment regions.

- Only regions with a low population density will be eligible for the Golden Visa program (500,000 euros is the minimum investment) and, if there is a building over 30 years old in these regions or an urban rehabilitation zone, the minimum investment amount is 350,000 euros.

- Madeira and Azores will be included in regions with low population density.

In the map of regions, territories with low population density (indicated in blue and red), which will come into force on January 1, 2022.
