Entertainment in Jurmala

Beach. Jurmala beach extends for 26 km. Snow-white soft sand and a smooth seafloor are especially suitable for holidays with children. Majori and Jaunkemeri beaches have been granted the prestigious Blue Flag award. The swimming season period depends on the weather, which differs slightly from year to year. Warm weather is usually between July – August. The best way not to be disappointed is to expect a semi warm sea. Costal dunes and pinewoods are good for health. Such climate is favoured amongst seniors.

Concerts. Popular Russian artists and local talent appear at the world-renowned Dzintari concert hall. You can find a list of concerts and schedules on website dzintarukoncertzale.lv. Dzintari concert hall is a summer stage, which is why the weather may influence your impression.

Restaurants and cafes. Restaurants in Jurmala do not have high prices and have a good quality of food and services. Hotel restaurants also have a good reputation. Many people like to dine in the restaurant opposite Dzintari concert hall usually so that they can listen to a concert at the same time. Recommended are those on Jomas street, for example Cafe 53 and the Latvian cuisine restaurant Lido. In Kurins restaurant (in Kaugari) prices of hot dishes range from €6 to €8, but you should reserve a table in advance if you want to visit a restaurant on weekends.

Two more restaurants worth a mention are Bar & Grill 36. Line, which is just off the beach, and Nojan Tapan – an armenian cuisine restaurant.

For children. One of the most popular places in Jurmala where you can spend time with children is Dzintaru mezaparks. There you can enjoy peaceful relaxation or active sports with your family. Adventure park Tarzan (Tarzana taka) is ideal for youngsters and adults who can try to overcome obstacles placed in the trees at different heights. Those who prefer to stay on terra firma can try roller skating or just walk down the leafy avenues and enjoy the fresh air. There are many other types of entertainment for children in Jurmala, for example kindergardens, playgrounds, tennis courts, golf-links, and stables with horses. It should be mentioned that Jurmala offers qualitative education and there are several elite schools: International School of Latvia, American school Evrika and French school Exupery International School.

Other entertainment in Jurmala: bicycle riding (hour/day hire) Livu aqua park, boating on the river Lielupe, walks around historical parts of the resort, guided tours of the wooden architecture and sculptures, and other tours.

Where to go from Jurmala?

Riga. Every 30 minutes you can take a train, bus, or share a taxi to Riga. On the way to Riga there is a big shopping centre, Spice.

Kemeri. Keremi Park is located on the way to Tukums-Ventspils. The Kemeri trail stations were built in 1877. Sites: historical hotel Kemeri, hydrogen sulfide sources, Little island of Love with arbour, the water tower, and orthodox and Lutheran churches. You may learn more about Latvian flora and fauna in Kemeri National Park, where you can walk down the wooden paths, marsh tracks and climb up the observation tower.

Fishing settlements. Bigaunciems, Lapmezhciems, and Ragaciems are located one after another along the cost. At the end of July people celebrate the day of the fisherman. You can buy smoked fish from roadside stalls, dine in a cafe, spend time on the coast, or have a picnic. Here you will find a great variety of fishes, but you should not leave without trying the local sprat.
