How to get a residence permit in Croatia
A temporary residence permit for a period of 1 year with the possibility of extension for another 4 years must be obtained at the Croatian Consulate in your place of residence. You can apply for a residence permit in Croatia for the following purposes:
1. family reunion
- If the family member is a citizen of Croatia
- If spouses and / or children under 18 years old who have a residence permit in Croatia
- If a family member has permanent residence in Croatia
2. employed or having business in Croatia. The main condition for obtaining a residence permit for the purpose of doing business is the availability of at least three jobs for Croatians
3. higher education in one of the universities or colleges
Applicant requirements for permanent residency:
- Be of legal age
- Be employable
- Have no legal issues in their country of citizenship
- Comply with European Union immigration legislation
- Pose no threat to Croatia's security
- Possess sufficient financial means to sustain themselves in the country
- Have international health insurance
Real estate in Croatia and permanent residency
Ownership of real estate in Croatia by a foreigner cannot be the sole motivation for obtaining permanent residency. However, it can be an additional advantage when applying for any type of residency.
One of the most popular methods for obtaining permanent residency in Croatia is through business immigration.
Business immigration conditions:
- Register a business entity in Croatia of any legal form with a share capital of no less than 200,000 Croatian kuna (approximately 26,500 euros)
- Employ at least three Croatian workers on a permanent basis with a salary at or above the average gross annual wage for the preceding year
- Be the majority shareholder in the organization, owning 51% of the company's shares
- *Self-employed individuals need to earn at least 1.5 times the average monthly Croatian wage (approximately 1,650 euros)
After residing in Croatia for five years with permanent residency obtained through business activities, you can apply for permanent settlement.
How to get permanent residence in Croatia
Permanent residence is granted to people who:
- Have lived in Croatia for 5 years on a residence permit or work visa
- Have a Croatian residence permit or work visa and have been married to a Croatian citizen for at least three years
- Have a residence permit or a work visa and are married (at least three years) to a person who has permanent residence in Croatia
